City of Frisco

As the weather begins to warm, the number of calls to the police department and our city’s animal control officers increases as encounters with wild animals such as coyotes become more frequent. Many areas of our city are still very rural and are natural habitats for such wild animals that we do not want to see roaming in our backyards; however, these animals are in their natural habitat and do not recognize property lines or residential neighborhoods. When they do wander into unsafe areas it’s time for the professionals to take over.

The Frisco Police Department would like to encourage all citizens to not attempt to run off, shoot at, or trap any wild animal that they encounter. Instead, call Animal Control at 972.292.5303 or the police department at 972.292.6010 if after hours and have a Frisco animal control officer or police officer respond to handle the situation.

Also, please remember that Frisco city ordinance prohibits discharging a firearm within the city limits. Please do not shoot any weapons in an attempt to scare off wild animals that you may encounter.

FEMA recently revised the flood zone maps for parts of Collin County. No change has been made to previous maps in relation to the requirement for flood insurance to be purchased. Parts of Plantation Springs has been designated within the 100 to 500-year flood zone, however this leaves the areas affected in a moderate to low risk area.

An email has been circulated that suggests that parts of the community may be in a flood zone, and may cause unnecessary concern to residents. Only two areas in Frisco have been added to within the 100-year flood zone, and neither of these affect our community (these were in Plantation Resort and Lakewood Farms).

Attached is a map of the revised FEMA map, and the LOMC (Letter Of Map Change) affecting Frisco.

FRISCO, TX – Beginning on March 1 the Frisco Police Department will begin to enforce a new city ordinance regulating residential and business alarms. The Frisco City Council passed the new ordinance near the end of 2009, but enforcement of the new regulations and fees have not yet been enforced as city officials wished to allow both residents and businesses to meet compliance prior to active enforcement by the police department.

The new ordinance requires a $35 annual fee for residential and business alarms and incorporates a new fee schedule for excessive false alarms. In 2009, the Frisco Police Department responded to 9,841 alarms of which over 99.6% were false alarms, costing taxpayers over $1.1 million for a police response. In an effort to mitigate these costs and reduce the impact on Frisco taxpayers, the following fines will be applied to excessive false burglar alarms occurring in a 12-month period preceding the last false alarm:

* $50 for more than three but fewer than six false burglar alarms;
* $75 for more than five but fewer than eight false burglar alarms; and
* $100 for more than eight false burglar alarms.
